Steps in Materials Production

 

Typical steps during the manufacturing of materials, i.e. single crystals, are:

• procurement of the necessary raw materials
• preparation / purification of the raw materials before crystal growth
• growth of the single crystals
• thermal annealing of the grown crystals in vacuum, inert and / or reactive gases
• cleaning of the crystal surfaces
• machining of the single crystals
  • i.e. sawing, rounding, facetting, grinding, lapping and polishing
• epitaxy (= deposition of mono-crystalline layers)
• conditioning of waste
• qualification of the crystals
