Steps in Materials Production
Typical steps during the manufacturing of materials, i.e. single crystals, are:
- procurement of the necessary raw materials
- preparation / purification of the raw materials before crystal growth
- growth of the single crystals
- thermal annealing of the grown crystals in vacuum, inert and / or reactive gases
- cleaning of the crystal surfaces
- machining of the single crystals
- i.e. sawing, rounding, facetting, grinding, lapping and polishing
- epitaxy (= deposition of mono-crystalline layers)
- conditioning of waste
- qualification of the crystals
